Ride details:
When: Sunday, August 23, 2026. Meet at 4:30pm, ride starts at 4:45pm.
Where: The Northwest Hub - 1230 Broadway St NE, Salem, OR 97301
What: We’ll plan for a ~1 hour ride around Salem. The ride will highlight some existing and planned safer bike infrastructure.
Then: The ride finishes back at The NW Hub. We’ll head across the street to Salem Cinema for the movie at 6:30pm. Make sure you have pre-purchased your movie tickets!

In order to get out of debt, Nick Alander, makes a series of radically frugal lifestyle choices without telling his girlfriend-practically-financeé that he’s fixing up an old bike and going off grid. He might end up homeless and alone, or he might just find an unconventional formula for reclaiming one’s individual freedom. A Simple Machine is a story of self-reliance, the ingenuity of simple tech, and the conflict between individual freedom and consumer culture. It was shot in Portland, Oregon by the award-winning cinematographer Kevin Fletcher (It’s What’s Inside) and scored by academy-nominated composer, Mark Orton (The Holdovers, and Nebraska). It stars Richard Blackmon in a breakout lead role and has left audiences both crying and laughing on its way to festival Audience Awards.
