New Protected Bike Lane on Commercial Street NE

As part of a much larger project, the Oregon Department of Transportation built a new protected bike lane on Commercial Street NE between Union Street and Division Street. The concrete separators were added to the project as a result of our engagement with the both the City and ODOT early in the planning stages of the project. This project is an example of the kind of outcomes our collective work produces.

This is the first instance of physical protection on the state-owned network in the City of Salem and is the first section of protection at street-level that extends for a block anywhere in the City. This small project now connects the Union Street Bikeway to the two-way off-street cycletrack by the Union Gospel Mission and is one step closer to safely connecting North Salem to the city center.
