Sobering Salem Statistic: Bike Fatalities

We are halfway through 2024 and are faced with a sobering statistic: Salem has experienced the same number of traffic fatalities at this point of the year as all of 2023. The chart below outlines the current numbers and the trajectory we are on without further interventions. 

City Councilor and SBV Co-Founder Virginia Stapleton brought attention to this issue at a recent council meeting (at the 13:45 mark here). We hope to continue raising awareness about these impacts while also making progress on creating safe transportation infrastructure throughout the community. You can read more in a Statesman Journal article here.
